Podcasts are a great way to increase your knowledge about a variety of topics, and they are convenient to listen to during long commutes or when you are at home and have some down time (like many of us have now during COVID-19). I love podcasts because they make mundane tasks like cleaning and working out more exciting since I can learn about some interesting topics while also being productive and getting work done. Additionally, research has indicated that listening to podcasts is a great way to stimulate the brain and generate activity in regions responsible for things like sensory activity and emotion. Since this is a health/wellness blog, here are my three favorite health podcasts:

1. TEDTalks Health | Available on Apple Podcasts

I personally love watching traditional TED Talks, and this podcast series was great! The series is essentially the traditional TED talk without the video, so if you are feeling up to it, you can watch the podcast with the video at a later time since each one was originally an onstage TED presentation. The length of each podcast greatly varies; some are as short as five minutes long, while the longest podcasts are about twenty minutes long. I think this is a good range and can help a listener pick a podcast accordingly depending on how much time they have available to listen. Each podcast features doctors and researchers sharing their insights on a particular topic; topics range from controlling the coronavirus pandemic to the health benefits of laughter. I highly recommend this podcast series to anyone who enjoys listening to TED Talks.

2. The Ultimate Health Podcast | Available on Apple Podcasts and Google Podcasts

This is a very interesting podcast series where hosts Jessi Chappus and Marni Wasserman interview experts on a variety of topics, including lifestyle, nutrition, organization, financial wellness, and more. I really enjoy the personal anecdotes, and I think the individuals featured are highly relatable. The podcasts in this series are definitely on the longer end; each are about an hour long. So, this may be something that you listen to in chunks or when you are in the middle of a long task where you can be simultaneously listening to a podcast.

3. Hidden Brain | Available on Apple Podcasts and Spotify

As an individual who is very interested in neuroscience and enjoys learning about the workings of the brain, I like listening to this podcast a lot. Hosted by NPR correspondent Shankar Vendantam, this series combines science and storytelling to educate listeners about a variety of very unique and fascinating topics. A recent podcast I enjoyed listening to is titled The Choices Before Us, and it discussed individuals’ limited choices and control during the coronavirus pandemic and how that relates to the brain and psychology. I would highly recommend this podcast series to anyone who has an interest in learning more about the connection between the brain and everyday life/society.
