Recently, I decided to follow an art therapy video after experiencing anxiety and stress during quarantine. I knew that art therapy has many benefits for mental health and can help foster positivity, so I thought of giving it a try. I used to draw a lot in middle school and during the beginning of high school, and it was really nice to go back to that and do some art just for fun!
I followed a Youtube tutorial created by a certified art therapist on her channel Thirsty for Art, which I have linked below in case you are interested in following it too. Overall, I really enjoyed the experience and felt relaxed! The whole session was only about ten minutes long (I went a little slower during the drawing portion), and I think it was good to start off with a short session. I might try to follow some longer tutorials in the future! I liked that the session began with a breathing exercise and ended with a journaling activity; it felt nice to go into the activity with a peaceful mind and end with some self-reflection. Overall, the experience was very calming and I enjoyed it. I would highly encourage anyone considering trying out art therapy to start off with the video below; it is great for beginners!
