How long have you been creating art?
I started painting four years ago.
Can you please tell us a little about your art?
I usually use a combination of watercolor, gouache, and colored pencils, but since I’ve been home and left all my other art supplies on campus, I am using an oil pastel set that I haven’t used in a while. I like to paint/draw outdoor scenes that I think of or take pictures of. Or I’ll just try to draw something I see in movies or tv shows since I’m watching a lot more Netflix lately.
How often have you been creating art during this time? Do you think you’ve been doing it more now that classes are online and social distancing is in place?
I try to draw a few times a week just to keep myself doing something. It’s a good way to feel productive if I don’t feel motivated enough to do school work. But I am definitely doing more art now than when I’m on campus. I think I just have a lot more time to occupy now since I don’t have practice for dance or club meetings.
How do you think creating art has been helping you stay positive and cope with these times of online classes and social distancing?
In a time where everything feels so uncontrollable, getting to create a little scene on paper is sort of calming. Also, I’ve been sending them in the mail to some friends so it has been really helpful in maintaining connections with people even when we can’t be on campus together.
Is there anything else you’ve been doing to pass time while quarantined?
Other than going on tons of walks and watching a lot of BuzzFeed Unsolved, my family and I play banana grams pretty much every day. It’s such a fun game, I highly recommend it.
